Thanks Kardena, Is great to see what the food actually looks like so you know you are doing it right.

I would love to see more information about nutrition and basic food breakdowns. What foods go great to compliment different vitamins/proteins/minerals etc with each other.

How certain foods affect the body and maybe the optimal times to eat them. More of a general idea of best foods to eat and how to combine.

Like the small facts – eg when you were talking about coffee’s PH level and how that affects the body. Its the little bits of knowledge that you have from experience that are valuable to the newcomers.

Just purchased your program. Rather curious though…I have been lifting weights (circuit) for 45 minutes 3 x a week..and cardio (intervals) 3 x a week..and eating around 1600-1700 calories a day. I am 56 year old male.. 184 pounds at 5’9 and 19-20% body fat… and not getting the weight loss I would like. So, eating the 2000 calories you suggest…will I lose? Diet is really pretty clean..occasional red wine…vegetarian, very low in fat, and mostly whole grains, a fresh vegetables and fruit.

Dear Kardena,
I read about your pre-workout drink of white tea, lemon, and cayenne. I too work out in the a.m.,when I do weights and cardio at the gym 3 days/week. What is best to eat after my workout, when it’s only 9:30? Also, if I want to burn fat and cellulite, should weights be done before or after the cardio session? I’ve recently become vegetarian as well. Also, could you give me a couple suggestions for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners? It’s hard to ask the trainers at my gym because they really push the protein.I would really appreciate it if you can send me a reply as soon as possible..By the way, I am a 60 year old female, about 100 lbs, but very flabby and have cellulite on my legs. I don’t look my age because I am very active. Thank you so much..I look forward to hearing from you soon. ML

what kinds of protein do you eat? I’m training and new to vegetarian, and trying to learn how to eat for training and stay veg. proteins are a prob.figuring out if I get enough. Is hemp a good source?esecially for smoothies? I heard it is always organic and non processed not sure how good or taste?

Blair, Your workouts sound pretty good. I would add in a couple of heavier lifting days to boost your muscle growth. Mix up your workout routine and stimulate more muscle growth. Eating more can actually help stimulate the metabolism, increase muscle growth which will help you drop more weight. Follow the meal plan, it will give you measurements to help you stay on track for your meal plan & calories. You may even add a quick protein shake with fruit after your weight training sessions to support muscle growth.
Your diet does sound clean, so the structure of the meal plan should help keep you on track.

ML, Did you try the drink? a.m. is a great time to workout for many reasons. After your workout you can have 1/3 cup oat groats with raw protein powder, 1/2 cup of fruit, & 4 oz of almond milk.
Good question about doing weights before or after cardio. Studies show that the most effective time to do weights is before cardio. I’ve actually put a heart rate monitor on my client to see which way is most effective and doing cardio after weights showed a 20% increase in calories burned.

Hi Tammy,
There are a variety of plant based proteins available to you.
Look at my post on sprouted seeds like sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. http://kardenaskitchen.com/2009/09/24/sprouting-for-energy/

They are great sources along with yes hemp protein. There’s also raw protein powders available made from veg sources. There’s also one called Life’s Basics and is 5 different veg protein sources that insures you receive all 22 essential amino acids. It taste good too!
